rag + bone: Part Deux

rag + bone riding boots

rag + bone riding boots

After running around today  in New York  for Fashion Week (which was of course exhaustingly amazing), I was even more excited to return to the store to find that our Rag + Bone riding boots had arrived!  The arrival of these boots has been much anticipated since seeing them in the showroom months ago and now they are finally here!  They arrived in a beautiful chocolate leather as well as a combination black napa/nubuck leather – and both are undeniably perfect!  My favorite things in a riding inspired boot: rounded toe, slight heel, sturdy structure yet not stiff, and most importantly the leather MUST look perfectly worn in but not abused.  These boots are that and then more – color preference: I can’t choose because both are so chic in their own way. The chocolate is a beautiful shade of saddle brown and read all-American, while the black is almost an off-black and read much more British equestrian.  It depends on your preference.  What I also love about the chocolate is that it really is the best brown boot I have seen in a very long time- it is tough to find the right shade brown boot to begin with and then have the leather and lines of the boot so incredible is really unheard of.  Let’s not under appreciate the black however because the combination of the napa leather and nubuck leather panel has created great depth to the boot – much more so than the typical flat black boot- and the wide band at the top of both boots really finishes the look off at the top of the leg very well.  Rag + Bone’s pieces always make me feel super chic in a way that I know looks effortless, enviable, and accessible and now my feet will get to enjoy their designing chic genius too!  Pair these with some skinny jeans or double knit pants, a great tee, and Smythe jacket for the ultimate in Fall ‘09 equestrian chic!

accessory obsession: Rag + Bone Gloves

rag + bone fall 2009 gloves

rag + bone fall 2009 gloves

We are feeling quite British today with the arrival of rag + bone’s fall gloves.  Two different styles have caught our accessory obsession.  One, which arrived in black and also red is termed the “fencing” fingerless glove. LOVE the name and LOVE the look and functionality even more!  Each fall/winter I go through at least one pair of fingerless gloves because I literally use them so much. This year the fencing glove is my new pair to use with love. What I love about rag + bone’s take on the fingerless glove is that it has the mitten attachement which stays hooked back by the cutest little rag + bone button!  This way our fingers are accessible yet if it gets too chilly we can untab the mitten attachment and voila! a new pair of gloves!  Fingerless gloves are so functional -why I am obsessed with them: when I am buying a coffee at Starbucks, or paying for a cab, answering my cell phone, or even trying to find my keys in my bag – one would usually have to take off the glove to avoid fumbling these simple tasks. With fingerless gloves, the gloves stay on and the task gets accomplished seamlessly.  I also adore that they chose to introduce this beautifully perfect shade of red for the gloves as well: the easiest way to bring a pop of color to an outfit is with an accessory. I see this red glove working perfectly with an all black jacket, boot combo, denim and choc or camel, ivory, and even purple or navy!

The second glove that just came in from rag + bone is the cashmere and leather driving glove (the shorter one pictured above).  This glove has so much personality, yet it is so simple that it can go with practically anything. It isn’t bulky at all and has a brass button and leather closure. It makes us feel a bit rebellious paired with an A. Wang dress or a bit more demure back to an Elizabeth + James blazer, trouser pant, and heels.  I think right now on a chilly night I certainly wouldn’t feel shy breaking these out with one of the new Monrow shirts (posted below), my Helmut Lang vest, Helmut Lang leather leggings and Camilla shoes (posted below) because after all they are DRIVING gloves and even if we aren’t British why not be inspired by their historically amazing style and glove it up!

Her “Majestee”: Monrow.

MONROW TEES

MONROW FALL 2009

Monrow is an LA-based tee shirt collection designed by Megan George and Michelle Wenke.  The two designers wanted to create a t-shirt line for everyday use that combines elements of high fashion and luxury living. Monrow is known for fashion-focused themes like “Save Rochas” and “Kate”, and was featured on whowhatweardaily.com. They truly have become queens of the tee-shirt.  A favorite with celebs such as Rachel Bilson, Mischa Barton, Sienna Miller, and Kate Moss. Monrow pieces are made from soft superfine “tissue” cotton some are double layered, asymmetrical, not too fitted, and not too loose and very sexy: they are essentially the tee we all see models wearing and ask ourselves, “why can’t I look that chic in a simple tee?”  Now you can.

Camilla Skovgaard knows shoes.  She was born in Denmark and now resides in London and New York primarily. Her global background in shoes is very impressive and apparent in her designs.  She brings such a modern and fresh perspective to designer shoes: just enough edge, sexiness, and of course comfort that keeps her clientele and growing fan base coming back season after season for more and each season she delivers with another AMAZING collection it is no wonder her shoes have tremendous momentum in the press.

I am obsessed with Camilla’s shoes for so many of the above reasons and also very importantly because after meeting her personally, learned that she is an AMAZING person.  I was so blown away by how honest, down-to-earth, friendly, and real she is that I walked away from our meeting with the conclusion that she is the nicest designer I have ever met. She is not willing to sacrifice her design beliefs, her vision, or who she is for anyone.  When I first spoke with her we were talking over our Blackberry’s to each other at about 11 at night while she was at a Fashion Week event in order ot set up our meeting that week: she is completely in charge of who she is and her brand: this is why we love her.

Fall ‘09 Colorwatch: caramel honey.

Fall '09 Colorwatch: Caramel Honey

Fall '09 Colorwatch: Caramel Honey

New arrivals today suggest a warming trend for early Fall ‘09: honey and caramel hues.  We love these colors because they are so perfect for this time of year moving forward into fall!  When the summer skin begins to fade caramel and honey tones act as warming hues that compliment any skin tone.  Today, we saw the above look styled with white pants – it was beautiful and a perfect way of styling these pieces for right now.  In the fall, these colors work great with other earth tones, denim, as well as black.  The cashmere cardigan and matching shell are designed by Ports 1961, whose knits are always amazing – they consistently use just the right fabric and details that give each piece its Ports uniqueness while maintaining their classic appeal.  We love their knits together as well as separate – this cardigan would be the perfect finish to a white tank and jeans and the shell would fabulous under a suit.  Our new Belle by Sigerson Morrison boots are the quintessential option for anything. This boot will take you anywhere in almost any outfit.  It is super-soft smooth suede – lined in tonal leather with undertones of grey and taupe.  The lines of this boot are one of the reasons we choose to wear Sigerson boots year after year – they peak higher up by the knee in the front and of course low in the back which elongates any leg!  Another reason we love this boot: it can also be a bootie and a scrunch boot. Scrunch boot: the top of the boot folds over and can be scrunched a bit down the leg. Bootie (see picture below) scrunched all the way down and fold over the leather detail at the ankle.  Essentially this is 3 boots in one and that makes the times we are going to wear them exponentially higher and happier – this is one of those boots that are absolutley a must-have for anyone’s wardrobe!

Blue Crush: New 3.1 Phillip Lim Pagoda Shoulder Coat

3.1 Phillip Lim Pagoda Shoulder Coat

3.1 Phillip Lim Pagoda Shoulder Coat

Phillip Lim has done it again.  Last year it was the peacock blue ruffle coat. This year, his blue coat is this beautiful peacock blue pagoda shoulder coat.  It has the most amazing lines and shape with of course defined shoulders, which are very prevalent for Fall ‘09 (reinforces the Alpha Woman we keep blogging about).  The shoulders are just the right definition – they tip up slightly at the edge with a higher slimmer armhole, which gives this jacket such a clean and sophisticated look. Lim has designed this look impeccably: as always.  We all know about the Dynasty-era shoulder pads that have for the past two decades kept us from wanting any sort of shoulder definition, but this year the shoulder is not padded straight across as if we were ready to join the linebackers on the field. Instead, Lim perfects what this fall’s shoulder is all about: architectural lines over padding: the angling, the streamlined definition, and the balance of the sleeve.   WE ARE IN LOVE (is it okay to want it to be 40 outside  or plan a cold weather trip because we don’t know if we can wait to wear it?) – oh and did we mention we also got in the matching blue mini skirt that would be so perfect underneath!

Obsession: The Bootie (The Wendy Bootie by Loeffler Randall)

Loeffler Randall Scrunch Bootie

Loeffler Randall Wendy Bootie

Just arrived: Loeffler Randall’s knit scrunch bootie! Everyone has been loving it today + I am definitely in love with this uberfunctional and comfortable bootie.  The knit can be rolled down, pulled up to knee height, or scrunched around the calf – over a pair of tights, skinny jeans, or leggings, these boots are definitely going to be your best friend on a chilly day. They are the perfect excuse to bring a little of our 80’s legwarmer loving style into Fall ‘09: except this time we won’t regret it, our feet will be super-happy, and of course admired by passerby’s!

Helmut Lang: Inspires.

Wang's Spider Lace Dress

Alexander Wang's Spider Lace Dress

Industrial, Modern Chic. This is Helmut Lang’s design legacy.  He made it fashionable first and today it is the look above all others that has been seen on the Fall ‘09 runway from designers such as Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Elizabeth + James, Rag + Bone, and of course his namesake, Helmut Lang.  It defines what we had blogged about earlier this month: the alpha woman.  No one messes with her, the look isn’t fussy: clean, minimal, hard edged, and sophisticated.  Alexander Wang’s spider lace dress (which we just got in and is currently in our window) is featured on Style.com as one of the Fall ‘09 looks that epitomizes the Helmut Lang aesthetic of course with a lot of Wang thrown in too: he is this design generation’s phenom. Check out some of the other looks from some of our designers that reference Helmut Lang’s aesthetic: http://tinyurl.com/lwj2lc (click on the slideshow).
